THE SONG OF WANDERING AENGUS
poem
La Chanson d’Aengus l’Errant
[Poème]

————————–

I went out to the hazel wood,
Je suis sorti au bois de noisetiers,
Because a fire was in my head,
Car un feu était dans ma tête,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
Et puis accroché une baie à un fil ;
And when white moths were on the wing,
Et quand les papillons blancs s’envolèrent,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.

When I had laid it on the floor
Quand je l’eus posé sur le sol
I went to blow the fire a-flame,
Je suis allé souffler sur le feu,
But something rustled on the floor,
Mais quelque chose bruissait au sol,
And someone called me by my name:
Et quelqu’un m’appela par mon nom:
It had become a glimmering girl
La truite était devenue une fille scintillante
With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.
Et disparu dans l’air illuminé.

Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone,
Je veux savoir où elle a disparu,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
Et embrasser ses lèvres et lui prendre les mains ;
And walk among long dappled grass,
Et marcher dans les hautes herbes fleuries,
And pluck till time and times are done,
The silver apples of the moon,
Les pommes d’argent de la lune,
The golden apples of the sun.
Les pommes d’or du soleil.
