SPRING
Printemps

Sound the flute!
Son de la flûte!
 Now it’s mute.
  Maintenant, devenue muette.
Birds delight
Les oiseaux enchantent
Day and night;
Jour et nuit
 Nightingale
Rossignol
In the dale,
Dans le vallon
Lark in sky,
Vole dans le ciel
Merrily,
Joyeusement,
Merrily, merrily, to welcome in the year.
Joyeusement, joyeusement pour cette nouvelle année.

Spring William Blake 1

Little boy,
Petit garçon
Full of joy;
Rempli de joie
Little girl,
Petite fille
Sweet and small;
Douce et gentille
Cock does crow,
Le coq fait la corneille,
So do you;
Et toi aussi :
Merry voice,
Voix joyeuse,
Infant noise,
Bruit d’enfant
Merrily, merrily, to welcome in the year.
Joyeusement, joyeusement pour cette nouvelle année.

Spring William Blake 2

Little lamb,
Petit agneau
 Here I am;
Je suis là ;
Come and lick
Viens et lèche
My white neck;
Mon cou blanc ;
Let me pull
Laisse-moi enlever
Your soft wool;
Ta douce laine ;
Let me kiss
Laisse-moi embrasser
Your soft face;
Ton doux visage ;
Merrily, merrily, we welcome in the year.
Joyeusement, joyeusement, nous saluons cette nouvelle année.

William Blake : On another’s sorrow Traduction Française

LITTERATURE ANGLAISE

WILLIAM BLAKE

ON ANOTHER’S SORROW

SUR LA DOULEUR DE L’AUTRE

William Blake par Thomas Phillips Traduction Artgitato française on another's sorrow

Can I see another’s woe,
Puis-je voir le malheur d’un autre,
And not be in sorrow too?
Et ne pas être aussi dans la douleur?
Can I see another’s grief,
Puis-je voir le chagrin d’un autre,
And not seek for kind relief?
Et ne pas chercher à le soulager ?

Can I see a falling tear,
Puis-je voir une larme tomber,
And not feel my sorrow’s share?
Et ne pas ressentir de la tristesse ?
Can a father see his child
Un père peut-il voir son enfant
Weep, nor be with sorrow filled?
Pleurer, sans être rempli de chagrin?

Can a mother sit and hear
Une mère peut-elle rester impassible en entendant
 An infant groan, an infant fear?
Un gémissement d’enfant, la peur du nourrisson?
No, no! never can it be!
Non, non ! Cela est impossible!
Never, never can it be!
Jamais, jamais ne le sera !

And can He who smiles on all
Et peut-il, Lui qui sourit à tous
Hear the wren with sorrows small,
Écouter les petites douleurs du roitelet,
Hear the small bird’s grief and care,
Entendre la douleur et les peines du petit oiseau,
Hear the woes that infants bear –
Écouter les malheurs que les oisillons endurent

And not sit beside the nest,
Et ne pas s’asseoir à côté du nid,
Pouring pity in their breast,
Verser sa pitié dans leur sein,
And not sit the cradle near,
Et pas s’asseoir près du berceau,
Weeping tear on infant’s tear?
Pleurant sur les pleurs du nourrisson?

And not sit both night and day,
Et ne pas rester jour et nuit,
Wiping all our tears away?
Essuyant toutes nos larmes?
O no! never can it be!
O non! Cela est impossible !
Never, never can it be!
Jamais, jamais ne le sera !

He doth give His joy to all:
Il donne sa joie à tous:
 He becomes an infant small,
Il devient un nourrisson,
He becomes a man of woe,
Il devient un homme de douleur,
He doth feel the sorrow too.
Il ressent ainsi la douleur.

Think not thou canst sigh a sigh,
Penses-tu pas pouvoir soupirer un soupir,
And thy Maker is not by:
Et que ton Créateur ne soit pas là :
Think not thou canst weep a tear,
Penses-tu pouvoir pleurer une larme,
And thy Maker is not near.
Sans que ton créateur ne soit à tes côtés

O He gives to us His joy,
Ô ! Il nous donne sa joie,
That our grief He may destroy:
Pour que chagrin soit anéanti :
Till our grief is fled and gone
Jusqu’à notre chagrin s’enfuit et disparaisse
He doth sit by us and moan.
Il s’assoit à nos côtés et avec nous gémit.
