THE LILY
Le Lys

The modest Rose puts forth a thorn,
La modeste Rose met en avant une épine,
The humble sheep a threat’ning horn:
L’humble mouton menace de sa corne :
While the Lily white shall in Love delight,
Alors que le Lys blanc est dans le plaisir de l’Amour,
Nor a thorn nor a threat stain her beauty bright.
Ni une épine ni une menace ne teintent sa beauté lumineuse.
