Et un séraphin à six ailes…

THE LILY
Le Lys

The modest Rose puts forth a thorn,
The humble sheep a threat’ning horn:
L’humble mouton menace de sa corne :
While the Lily white shall in Love delight,
Nor a thorn nor a threat stain her beauty bright.

The Angel William Blake par Thomas Phillips Traduction Artgitato française L'ANGE

THE ANGEL
L’Ange

 I dreamt a dream! What can it mean?
Je rêvais un rêve ! Qu’est-ce que cela signifie ?
And that I was a maiden Queen
Et que j’étais une jeune Reine
   Guarded by an Angel mild:
Gardée par un Ange clément :
Witless woe was ne’er beguil’d!
Malheur stupide ne fut jamais séduit !

And I wept both night and day,
Et je pleurais nuit et jour,
And he wiped my tears away;
Et il a essuyé mes larmes ;
   And I wept both day and night,
Et je pleurais jour et nuit,
 And hid from him my heart’s delight.

So he took his wings, and fled;
Alors il  ouvrit ses ailes, et fuit ;
 Then the morn blushed rosy red.
Puis le matin rougit de rose rougeur.
 I dried my tears, and armed my fears
With ten-thousand shields and spears.
Avec dixmille boucliers et lances.

Soon my Angel came again;
Bientôt mon Ange fut de retour ;
 I was armed, he came in vain;
J’étais armé, il vint en vain;
 For the time of youth was fled,
le temps de la jeunesse avait disparu,
And grey hairs were on my head.
Et les cheveux gris recouvraient  ma tête.

THE SHEPHERD
Le Berger

How sweet is the shepherd’s sweet lot!
From the morn to the evening he strays;
Du matin au soir, il vagabonde ;
He shall follow his sheep all the day,
And his tongue shall be filled with praise.

For he hears the lambs’ innocent call,
And he hears the ewes’ tender reply;
Et il entend la réponse des brebis;
He is watchful while they are in peace,
For they know when their shepherd is nigh.

MY PRETTY ROSE TREE

Mon Joli Rosier

****

A flower was offered to me,
Une fleur m’a été offerte,
Such a flower as May never bore;
Une fleur comme Mai ne porta jamais ;
But I said ‘I’ve a pretty rose tree,’
And I passed the sweet flower o’er.
Et je laissai la douce fleur.

Then I went to my pretty rose tree,
Puis je suis allé voir mon joli rosier,
To tend her by day and by night;
Pour m’en occuper de jour comme de nuit ;
But my rose turned away with jealousy,
Mais, jalouse, ma Rose se détourna,
And her thorns were my only delight.

THE OXFORD VOICE
L’ACCENT D’OXFORD

When you hear it languishing
Quand vous l’entendez languir
and hooing and cooing, and sidling through the front teeth,
                                     the oxford voice
l’accent d’Oxford
                                     [or worse still]
                                    [ou pire encore]
                                     the would-be oxford voice
                                         le soi-disant accent d’Oxford
you don’t even laugh any more, you can’t.

 For every blooming bird is an oxford cuckoo nowadays,
you can’t sit on a bus nor in the tube

but it breathes gently and languishingly in the back of
your neck.

 And oh, so seductively superior, so seductively
Et ô, si séduisante supériorité, si séduisante
self-effacingly

LITTERATURE ANGLAISE -English Littérature

NATURAL COMPLEXION DH LAWRENCE
David Herbert Lawrence
1885-1930

natural complexion dh lawrence Traduction Française Artgitato Teint Naturel

NATURAL COMPLEXION
TEINT NATUREL

But you see, said the handsome Young man with the chamois gloves to the woman rather older than himself,
if you don’t use rouge and a lip-stick in Paris
they’ll take you for a woman of the people.

So spoke the british gentleman
Ainsi parlait le gentleman britannique
pulling on his chamois gloves
tirant sur ses gants de chamois
and using his most melodious would-be-oxford voice.

And the woman said : dear me !
Et la femme dit : mon Dieu!
how rough that would be on you, Darling !
combien ce serait difficile pour vous, chéri !
Only, if you insist on pulling on those chamois gloves
I swear I’ll pull off my knickers, right in the Rue de la Paix.

THE MESS OF LOVE DH Lawrence Traduction Française LE GÂCHIS DE L’AMOUR

LITTERATURE ANGLAISE -English Litterature
THE MESS OF LOVE DH LAWRENCE
David Herbert Lawrence
1885-1930

The Mess of love dh lawrence Traduction Française Artgitato Le désordre de l'amour

THE MESS OF LOVE
LE GÂCHIS DE L’AMOUR

 We’ve made a great mess of love
Since we made an ideal of it.

The moment I swear to love a woman, a certain woman, all my life
That moment I begin to hate her.

The moment I even say to a woman: I love you! —
Dès le moment où je dis à une femme : Je t’aime!
 My love dies down considerably.
Mon amour considérablement diminue.

The moment love is an understood thing between us, we are sure of it,
It’s a cold egg, it isn’t love any more.

Love is like a flower, it must flower and fade;
L’amour est comme une fleur, il doit fleurir puis se faner ;
If it doesn’t fade, it is not a flower,
S’il ne se décolore pas, ce n’est pas une fleur,
It’s either an artificial rag blossom, or an immortelle, for the cemetery.

The moment the mind interferes with love, or the will fixes on it,
Or the personality assumes it as an attribute, or the ego takes possession of it,
 It is not love any more, it’s just a mess.
Ce n’est pas plus de l’amour, c’est juste un gâchis.
And we’ve made a great mess of love, mind-perverted, will-perverted, ego-perverted love.

PEACH POEM DH LAWRENCE

PEACH Poem D

PEACH
PÊCHE

Would you like to throw a stone at me?
Aimeriez-vous  jeter une pierre sur ma personne ?
Here, take all that’s left of my peach.
Blood-red, deep:
Rouge sang, profonde:
Heaven knows how it came to pass.
Dieu seul sait comment cela arriva.
Somebody’s pound of flesh rendered up.
Wrinkled with secrets
Ridée par les secrets
And hard with the intention to keep them.
Why, from silvery peach-bloom,
From that shallow-silvery wine-glass on a short stem
This rolling, dropping, heavy globule?
Ce roulant, coulant globule lourd?
I am thinking, of course, of the peach before I ate it.
Why so velvety, why so voluptuous heavy?
Pourquoi si velouté, pourquoi si voluptueusement lourde ?
Why hanging with such inordinate weight?
Pourquoi traîner un tel poids démesuré ?
Why so indented?
Pourquoi est-elle si dentelée ?
Why the groove?
Pourquoi cette rainure ?
Why the lovely, bivalve roundnesses?
Pourquoi ces belles rondeurs, bivalves ?
Why the ripple down the sphere?
Why the suggestion of incision?
Pourquoi la suggestion de l’incision ?
Why was not my peach round and finished like a billiard ball?
It would have been if man had made it.
Though I’ve eaten it now.
Bien que je l’ai mangée maintenant.
But it wasn’t round and finished like a billiard ball.
And because I say so, you would like to throw something at me.
Here, you can have my peach stone.

Destiny D

DESTINY POEM BY LAWRENCE
Destinée

O destiny, destiny,
Ô destinée, destinée,
do you exist, and can a man touch your hand ?
existez-vous et un homme peut-il toucher votre main ?
O destiny
Ô destinée
if I could see your hand, and it were thumbs down,
I would be willing to give way, like the pterodactyl,
and accept obliteration.
et accepter l’effacement.
I would not even ask to leave a fossil claw extant,
nor a thumb-mark like a clue,
I would be willing to vanish completly, completly.
Je serais prêt à disparaître complètement, complètement.

But if it is thumbs up, and mankind must go on being, mankind then I am willing to fight, I will roll my sleeves up
and start in.
et m’y atteler.

Only, O destiny
Seulement, Ô destinée
I wish you’d show your hand.
Je souhaite que vous montriez votre main.
