A DREAM WILLIAM BLAKE
WILLIAM BLAKE
1757-1827
A DREAM
UN RÊVE
Once a dream did weave a shade
Une fois un rêve tissa une ombre
O’er my angel-guarded bed,
Sur mon lit cerné par les anges,
That an Emmet lost its way
Qu’une fourmi avait perdu son chemin
Where on grass methought I lay.
Sur l’herbe, où je me reposais.
Troubled, wildered, and forlorn,
Troublée, effrayée et désespérée,
Dark, benighted, travel-worn,
Sombre, aveugle, fatiguée par le voyage,
Over many a tangle spray,
Dans un enchevêtrement de brindilles,
All heart-broke, I heard her say:
Le cœur brisé, je l’ai entendue dire:
« Oh my children! do they cry,
«Oh mes enfants! -ils pleurent,
Do they hear their father sigh?
Entendent-ils leur père soupirer?
Now they look abroad to see,
Maintenant, ils sortent et partent à ma recherche,
Now return and weep for me. »
Maintenant, il reviennent et me pleurent ».
Pitying, I dropped a tear:
Pris de pitié, je versais une larme:
But I saw a glow-worm near,
Mais j’ai vu un ver luisant à côté,
Who replied, ‘What wailing Wight
Qui a répondu : « Quelles sont ces lamentations
Calls the watchman of the night?
qui appellent la sentinelle de la nuit?
« I am set to light the ground,
«Je suis ici pour éclairer la terre,
While the beetle goes his round:
Quand l’escargot fait va sa ronde:
Follow now the beetle’s hum;
Suis maintenant le bourdonnement de l’insecte;
Little wanderer, hie thee home! »
Petit vagabond, et rentre dans ta maison ! »
