L’Amour & l’Harmonie

Love and harmony combine,
L’amour et l’harmonie se combinent,
And round our souls entwine
Et autour de nos âmes s’enlacent
While thy branches mix with mine,
Pendant que tes branches se mélangent aux miennes,
And our roots together join.
Nos racines se rejoignent.

Joys upon our branches sit,
Les joies sur nos branches sont assises,
Chirping loud and singing sweet;
Gazouillant puissamment et doucement chantant ;
Like gentle streams beneath our feet
Comme de paisibles ruisseaux à nos pieds
Innocence and virtue meet.
L’innocence et la vertu se rencontrent.

Thou the golden fruit dost bear,
Toi, les fruits dorés tu portes,
I am clad in flowers fair;
Moi, de fleurs agréables je me vêts ;
Thy sweet boughs perfume the air,
Tes douches branches embaument l’air,
And the turtle buildeth there.
Où bâtit la tourterelle.

There she sits and feeds her young,
Là, elle se trouve et y nourrit ses petits,
Sweet I hear her mournful song;
Doucement j’entends sa chanson triste ;
And thy lovely leaves among,
Et entre de délicieuses feuilles,
There is love, I hear his tongue.
Il y a l’amour, j’entends sa langue.

There his charming nest doth lay,
Là, son nid charmant il a construit,
There he sleeps the night away;
Là, il y dort toute la nuit ;
There he sports along the day,
Là, il s’agite toute la journée,
And doth among our branches play.
Jouant parmi nos branches.

THE GARDEN OF LOVE

Le Jardin d’Amour

 

I went to the Garden of Love,
Je suis allé au Jardin d’Amour,
And saw what I never had seen:
Et vu ce que je ne l’avais jamais vue :
A Chapel was built in the midst,
Une chapelle était construite en plein milieu,
Where I used to play on the green.
Où j’avais l’habitude de jouer sur la pelouse.

And the gates of this Chapel were shut,
Et les portes de cette chapelle étaient fermées,
And ‘Thou shalt not’  writ over the door;
Et « Tu ne feras pas« , était écrit sur cette porte ;
So I turn’d to the Garden of Love,
Je me suis tourné alors vers le Jardin d’Amour,
That so many sweet flowers bore.
Que tant de fleurs douces décoraient.

And I saw it was filled with graves,
Et je l’ai vu rempli de tombes,
And tomb-stones where flowers should be:
Et de pierres tombales où les fleurs devaient être:
And Priests in black gowns, were walking their rounds,
Et les prêtres en robe noire, déambulaient dans leurs rondes,
And binding with briars, my joys & desires.
En liant avec des ronces, mes joies & mes désirs.
