A LITTLE GIRL LOST

Une Petite Fille Perdue

Traduction Jacky Lavauzelle

In futurity
Dans l’avenir
I prophetic see
Je le vois prophétiquement :
That the earth from sleep
Que la terre sorte de son sommeil
(Grave the sentence deep)
(Gravez profondément la phrase)

Shall arise and seek
Elle se lèvera, et cherchera
For her Maker meek;
son doux Créateur ;
And the desert wild
Et le sauvage désert
Become a garden mild.
Deviendra un jardin douillet.

In the southern clime,
Dans le climat du sud,
Where the summer’s prime
Où la primeur de l’été
Never fades away,
Ne se fane jamais,
Lovely Lyca lay.
où la Belle Lyca reposait.

Seven summers old
Sept étés
Lovely Lyca told;
portaient la Belle Lyca ;
She had wander’d long
Elle avait longtemps erré
Hearing wild birds’ song.
A l’écoute du chant des oiseaux sauvages.

« Sweet sleep, come to me
« Doux sommeil, viens à moi
 « Underneath this tree.
« Sous cet arbre.
   « Do father, mother, weep?
« Père, mère, pleurez-vous ?
 « Where can Lyca sleep?
«Où peut se coucher Lyca ?

**

« Lost in desert wild
« Perdue dans le désert sauvage
« Is your little child.
« C’est votre petit enfant.
« How can Lyca sleep
« Comment peut dormir Lyca
« If her mother weep?
« Si sa mère pleure ?

**

« If her heart does ache
«Si lourd est son cœur
    « Then let Lyca wake;
« Alors laissez dormir Lyca ;
« If my mother sleep,
«Si ma mère sommeille,
« Lyca shall not weep.
« Lyca ne doit pas pleurer.

**

« Frowning, frowning night,
« Morose, la nuit morose,
« O’er this desert bright,
« Sur ce désert lumineux,
  « Let thy moon arise
«Que ta lune se pose
« While I close my eyes. »
« Alors que je ferme les yeux. »

**

Sleeping Lyca lay
Lyca dormant
While the beasts of prey,
Pendant que les bêtes de proie,
Come from caverns deep,
Venues de profondes cavernes,
  View’d the maid asleep.
Observaient la fillette.

**

The kingly lion stood,
Le roi lion se leva,
And the virgin view’d,
Et observa la vierge,
Then he gamboll’d round
Puis il bondit
O’er the hallow’d ground.
Autour de ce sol sacré.

**

Leopards, tigers, play
Léopards, tigres, jouaient
Round her as she lay,
Autour d’elle alors qu’elle gisait-là,
While the lion old
Tandis que le vieux lion
 Bow’d his mane of gold
Courba sa crinière d’or

**

And her bosom lick,
Et lécha son sein,
And upon her neck
Et sur son cou
From his eyes of flame
De ses yeux de flamme
Ruby tears there came;
Des rubis en larmes tombèrent ;

**

While the lioness
Arriva la lionne
Loos’d her slender dress,
Froissant sa robe mince,
And naked they convey’d
Et nue, ils l’emportèrent
To caves the sleeping maid.
Dans leur tanière l’endormie.
